COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TO OTHER LATINOS?

! PARA QUE LO SEPAS !

What happens to a Nuyorican's (spelling?) Spanish usage after having been submerged in the Chicago Mexican community for 28 years?  ... well here is my personal story.

I have lived in Chicago for the past 28 years with almost no exposure to other Puertorriqueños.

What follows are a few examples of the genetic changes that have occurred to my
Spanish DNA.

*  Andalé - (accent over the "e") - Hurry up !

*  Qué padre ! - (accent over the "e" in que) - That's fabulous !

*  Estoy pedo ! - I'm high / drunk.

*  Qué buena onda ! - ( accent over the "e" in que) - What a cool situation !  or How nice !  - the literal translation is " What a good wave !"

*  Qué mala onda ! - ( accent over the "e" in que) - What a F**ked up situation !

*  Qué pues buey ! - (accent over the "e" in que)  - "buey" literary means "ox" but in Mexican dialect it means: " What's up dude ?" - "buey" is pronounced like the English word "way"

*  Tienes lana ? - " lana " means " wool " - Do you have money ?

*  No tengo chamba. - I do not have a job.

*  No estoy chambeando. - I am not working.

 If you come to Chicago, be prepared to learn the Mexican lingo. 

There are three major FM radio stations here in Chicago and ALL hosted by Mexicans that exclusively use Mexican dialect.

 Puertorriqueños here in Chicago have one AM radio station that airs once a week and that's all  !!!!!
 
We love our Mexican brothers and sisters but we need representation as well .........
