On August 18 , 2010 California and the rest of the country lost a Civil Rights Pioneer
in one Dr. Mario Obledo . The Good Doctor was known as the "Godfather " of the
Latino Civil Rights movement in California and Really for the whole west side of the country .
Dr. Obledo co-founded the Mexican Legal Defense and Education fund as well as The Hispanic National
Bar Association AND was a faculty member of the Harvard school of law . Now That's some GANGSTA sh*&% .
Not only did "Mario" serve on the board of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday commission he also was a past chairman
of the National Rainbow Coalition as he sought to bring all ethnicities and religions together . As a HUGE testament to his life
and career he received the OHTLI award which is the highest honor one can receive from Mexico as a foreigner and was also awarded
THE PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM AWARD  by President Clinton .
