VENEZUELA GIVES THANKS
TO MARIA LIONZA !!!!!!!




Every year almost all of Venezuela travels up the Sorte Mountain to give thanks for all their blessings to La Santa , Maria Lionza . Maria is a Goddess of Nature , Love and Harmony and is respected as one of the most important people in the mostly indigenous religion .  Maria Lionza , who was called the Queen of her people , was born to an Indian Chief on or about 1502 and was a very strong woman , who , it is said held sway over many many different types of animals .  In fact it is also said that " La Reina " was so beloved
by animals that they were always present in her court . Santa Maria de La Onzas' spirit is said to still inhabit her home on the Sorte Mountain and this is where people come to pay homage , give
thanks or ask for a blessing .

So many people from all over Venezuela come to the Mountain that the powers that be , proclaimed it a
National Park in the 80's . It needs to be mentioned that esta Santa es parte de la trinidad  que se llama
  " Las Tres Potencias " and is very VERY important to many many Latinos in the Caribbean an elsewhere .......
