La Posada ( The Inn ) - A Mexican Christmas Tradition
During Christmas time Mexican people gather to go from home to home reenacting Joseph and Mary's
search for shelter before the birth of Jesus. Sometimes Mary would even ride in a real donkey!
Okay, let's get real !!!!! Mexicans brought the tradition to Chicago with some important alterations.
The Joseph and Mary icons were ditched and of course , the donkey too! .... much too stinky !!!!
The kids are left with babysitters.
On Christmas Eve, adults gather into cars and go from apartment to apartment looking for alcoholic
beverages and tamales. After a few drinks and wild dancing, everyone thanks the host and heads
to the next apartment.
There is more drinking and dancing until the guys leave their Machismo behind and begin to
dance with each other.
When everyone is too drunk to continue, the designated driver brings everyone home.

Durante la temporada de las Navidades, Mexicanos se juntan para ir de casa a casa haciendo el papel
de Maria y José cuando estaban buscando alojamiento en Belén antes del nacimiento de Jesus. A veces,
Maria se iba montada a un burro!
Ahora, vamos a hablar sin pelos en la lengua! Los Mexicanos trajeron la tradicion a Chicago con algunos cambios.
Los iconos de José y Maria fueron botados y, por supuesto, el burro tambien....apestaba demasiado. Los niños se
quedan con las niñeras en casa.
En la Noche Buena, los adultos se van en sus carros para ir de apartamento en apartamento en busca de bebidas
alcoholicas y tamales.
Después de varios tragos y baile, todo el mundo le da las gracias al anfitrion y se van a la proxima parada.
Aparecen mas tragos y hay mas baile hasta que los hombres dejen atrás su " Machismo " y empiezen a bailar el uno con el otro.
Todos ya borrachos dependen de las pesonas precavidas, que no bebieron para poder llevar a todos a sus hogares.
