QUEEN OF SPANISH RADIO IN NEW MEXICO
PASSES ON TO THAT BIG STATION IN THE SKY
!!!!!! GRACIAS POR TODO !!!!!!

Farmington , New Mexico is a lot sadder today now that Latina Radio Queen , Guadalupe " Lupita " Cordova has passed on . In 1961 many people complained to local radio station , KHAP , that there was no Spanish programming
at all so the station replied that if anyone was interested in managing a Spanish show , the station would put it on the air . Gilbert ( Lupita's Husband ) hears this and jokingly tells Lupita that they should do it so she goes to the station and signs them up . " Los Ositos " begins life as 6 hour radio show on Sundays with the two hosts who
together have NO experience whatsoever . " Los Ositos " goes on to become one of the most important radio shows in all New Mexico as Gilbert and Lupita carve out their niche by expanding into local dances and concerts for the Spanish Community . Most regional bands end up getting their start with the radio show and some even get fed and put up for the night by the Cordovas . By 1996 the station goes off the air but the the closeness of all Latinos is now seen as an obligation due to the hard work and influence of Lupita and Gilbert . Indeed , the Mexicans who were the first to be driven out of New Mexico , came right back and helped ALL Latinos who subsequently moved there ( Peruvians , Puerto Ricans AND Nuyoricans ) have a voice in the Community .

Please respect her passing by bowing your head
and raising a clenched fist !!!!
We Will ALL miss you Lupita
Thank You
