Are You a PERSON OF COLOR or FEMALE looking for work in Hollywood?? Well, FUGGETABOUTIT!!!! Disturbing report from the Screen Actors Guild on DIVERSITY in Hollywood says that roles for Minorities has DECREASED from the previous year!
In a report recently released by the Screen Actors Guild that follows hiring trends in Hollywood, Minorities are faring worse than the previous year as far as getting work in Hollywood, with Latinos and Native Americans really getting the squeeze! Despite being 10.6 percent of the population, Latinos only got 6.4 percent of the roles. This is a very disturbing report and emphasizes the work that the Latino community has to do to make sure that we are represented in all levels of media and that we also get roles that reflect our real experience (no, we don't wanna be drug dealers, maids and immigrants).
That's why The Bochinche.com salutes people like Franc Reyes (The Ministers), Florencia Lozano (Underneath My Bed), Mike Diaz (Heights Entertainment) Edwin Torres (Carlito's Way) and others who have taken up the challenge of not waiting for Hollywood to catch up to the reality of "Latinos in America" (thanks Soledad!) but are instead taking it upon THEMSELVES to shape that reality. Bravo to those in our community who are lighting the way, and we encourage all young Latino actors and actresses (and people of color in general) to continue to push the envelop by acting, directing, and producing OUR OWN stories......like they say...... when one door closes.....PICK THE DAMN LOCK!
