QUINCEAÑERAS !!!!!!

The Quincenera or 15th birthday celebration is special to Mexicans , and Latinos in general ,and represents a transition from childhood to womanhood. It dates back to the Aztecs circa 500 BC. The Aztecs presented their young daughters to society as women now ready for marriage and procreation. Young boys were also presented to society on their 15th birthday as warriors and potential husbands for the virgin Quinceañera damsels.
Of course, the Spanish conquistadores and missionaries grabbed the ancient Aztec custom and weaved it into the Catholic tapestry to entrap the indigenous population in the tight hold of Christianity. Religion was the primary weapon used to bleach out all traces of the flourishing and advanced culture the European and barbaric Spaniards encountered. Gun powder made the Spaniards militarily superior which resulted in the extinction of many indigenous cultures that worshiped "Mother Earth" in a fashion that is still superior to our meager efforts to be GREEN in the 21st century. ...And "DID JA KNOW" that gun powder was invented by the Chinese...so the European culture robbed and raped with weapons created by the very Third World people they decimated.
Well, lets get back to the Catholic cathedral! The Quinceañera starts with a Thanksgiving Mass - Misa de Accion de Gracias. All is set up as if it were a wedding. After the birthday girl offers a lit candle and flowers to the patron saint of Mexico, La Virgen de Guadalupe , everyone moves on to the rented hall.
The steep cost of the celebration covers the fee to rent a hall for 100 or more people, a Mariachi band, a DJ, an expensive gown for the birthday girl, food, photographs, a large cake, drinks, decorations and body guards.
My personal opinion is that the money wasted on the Quinceañera should be put in a college fund for the pubescent girl. Though the custom had indigenous roots, it was altered and used as a trap and a weapon to control the masses.
Let's not continue to celebrate the genocide of our ancestors. Wake up!
