Willie Perdomo

Willie Perdomo has a new children's book
about the legendary Puerto Rican ballplayer
 " Roberto Clemente"

The author of the new children's book "Clemente!," admits that although he loved baseball as a kid, he learned about the legendary Puerto Rican ballplayer Roberto Clemente only later in life. Willie Perdomo, 42, took an unusual approach to telling the well-known story of the pioneering Clemente, who for 18 years played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was the first Latin American inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He wanted to emphasize the importance of the father-son bond, which he does by highlighting the relationships between the narrator, a boy named Clemente, and his father, and between Clemente, the player, and his three sons. So "Clemente" is not just a story about the sports hero, who died in a plane crash in 1972 bringing supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua, but also a lovely tale about family, love, perseverance and culture.
